Asia Pacific Regional Committee Members 2013-2016

APR Committee 2014The Asia Pacific Regional Committee WAGGGS for 2013-2016 was elected by delegates to the 11th Asia Pacific Conference, which met in Japan in July 2013.

The main purpose of the Regional Committee is:

  • To set the strategic direction of the Region in line with WAGGGS vision and mission
  • To represent the interests of WAGGGS in the Region
  • To ensure the values and ways of work of WAGGGS are respected and implemented in the Region
  • To be the voice of the Region to ensure WAGGGS global strategies and initiatives meet the needs of the Region
  • To provide support to Member Organizations in the development of quality Girl Guiding/ Girl Scouting and implementation of the Regional/WAGGGS plans

The members of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee are:


Low Lih Jeng – Chairman (Singapore)

Low Lih Jeng

Jeng believes there is huge potential in the AP Region and encourages MOs to share their resources and knowledge with each other. Amidst the diversity of AP, Jeng wants MOs to be firmly rooted to the Mission and values of GG/GS while evolving to remain relevant in today's changing world. Jeng is a member of Trefoil Guild of Girl Guides Singapore and a District Judge/Deputy Registrar at the Subordinate Courts, Singapore. In her free time, Jeng dabbles in stock photography and enjoys walks in the outdoors.

Melanie Bennett - Vice Chairman (New Zealand)

Melanie enjoys developing people and systems. Melanie set up the Gold project for GirlGuiding New Zealand and led the first team to Fiji for the start of the five year project. Melanie wants to use this experience to be able to help build and strengthen Guiding in the Asia Pacific region. In her professional life Melanie leads the taxation and property advisory team at Guardian Trust. In her free time Melanie enjoys playing with her son and enjoying the wonderful New Zealand outdoors.


Marybelle Mariñas (Philippines)

Marybelle believes that every girl should experience the wonderful and enriching program WAGGGS has to offer. With this in mind, and as Committee member, she intends to work on increasing membership in the Asia Pacific Region. Further, considering the diverse culture, language and personalities of the Region, she intends to use this as the catalyst towards strengthening good governance in the Region.  In her member organization, she is the Vice Chair of the Northern Luzon Regional Committee and the Vice-President of her local council.  She is a Regional Trial Court Judge by profession, a Law professor and Bar reviewer by vocation and a law lecturer in seminars and trainings by passion.  She loves reading and spending time with her two boys.


Dr Minori Yuda (Japan)

Minori hopes that she would like to provide better Girl Guide/Girl Scout experiences for all in the region. Especially she wants to utilize her experiences for better educational program that not only girls but also all people in the movement can learn a lot and develop themselves through many activities.  In her professional life, Minori is geographer and an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo. In her free time she enjoys watching movies, outdoor activities and travelling.

Dr Lucy Tan-atichat (Thailand)

Lucy strongly believes in Life Long Learning (3L) and hopes to inspire girls and young women to share similar ideology. All her tertiary degrees were earned after her retirement from her first career. Coming from the corporate world she sees opportunities to adapt some of the ways of work to a voluntary organization like WAGGGS.  Currently, she’s an adjunct lecturer with The Institute of International Studies, Ramkhamhaeng University. In her free time, she likes to learn more and volunteer.

Pinky I-Ling Lin (Taiwan)

APR Committee - Pinky Lin I-Ling

Pinky wishes to bring stronger binding between the young women and girls in the Asia Pacific Region with her expertise and passion for Girl Scouts. Through working with the Asia Pacific Regional Committee, she hopes to learn more about the diversity, cultures and people throughout the region. In her professional life, she is a Marketing Director at Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Company. Pinky enjoys outdoor adventures and traveling in her free time.
