Nepal Scouts celebrated Centenary Day with Cleaning Campaign

On 10 April 2012, the Centenary Celebration Day of WAGGGS, Nepal Scouts participated in the cleaning campaign organized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City at Bhagwan Paw, Swaymbhu, the holy place of the Buddhist Swaymbhunath Temple. The Honarable Youth and Sports Minister, Ms. Kamala Roka and The Honarable Youth and Sports Home Minister, Mr. Gopi Achhami also participated in the program.
Nepal Scouts is also working on this year's World Thinking Day Theme "we can save our planet" by encouraging the districts and National Headquarters itself to work on environmental projects.
There were hundreds of army and police who also participated in the campaign by cleaning the streets. The Chief Commissioner, Mr. Shree Ram Lamichhane, Joint Chief Commissioner, Ms. Pushpalata Bhattrai, other Commissioners, all the Headquarters staff, and Scouts, both boys and girls, participated in the cleaning campaign.
On the same day, Nepal Scouts organized a Centenary Celebration Day event in the premises of their National Headquarters. The participants were mostly girls' leaders and Rangers. The Chief Guest of the event was Honorable Home Minister of Youth and Sports (line Ministry of Nepal Scouts), Mr. Gopi Achhami. 100 year themes and slogans were displayed in the premises. As the programme was organized in the central level, three District Scouts Offices - Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, attended the event by sending their participation.
The Master of Ceremony was Ms. Prerana Shakya, Coordinator of Finland Nepal Partnership Project, Nepal Scouts. She is also the Centenary Ambassador for Nepal. The program started with the welcome speech by Ms. Ram Badan Joshi, Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee where she explained about the process of Girl Scouting in Nepal and the coordination with WAGGGS.
On the auspicious occasion, we received the message from the Chairperson of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee, WAGGGS, Low Lih Jeng and the message was read by the Ex. International Commissioner, Ms. Sunita Gurung. After that, representatives from the 3 districts; Ms. Bimala Shrestha, Vice District Commissioner from Kathmandu, Ms. Rina Shrestha, member of the District Executive Board from Lalitpur, and Ms. Rukmini Shrestha, Ex. National Training Commissioner from Bhaktapur shared their experiences and activities done by the districts on the centenary years. The district scouts are conducting various activities in their levels to celebrate centenary such as school level competitions, dramas, camps, and other activities.
Nepal Scouts has a Sewing and Cutting Training centre where there were 4 trainees who completed their 6-month training. On the special occasion, they received the training certificates from the Honarable Youth and Sports Home Minister - Mr. Gopi Achhami. One of the National Headquarters employee also received National Education Award which was also handed by the Minister.
After the certificate presentation, Honarable Youth and Sports Home Minister, Mr. Gopi Achhami addressed few words that inspired the Girl Scout leaders and Rangers. He also mentioned that he will provide any support he is able to.
Participants and guests were entertained by cultural dance performance organized by the Kathmandu District. After that, WAGGGS video on '100 years' and the video message from Nadine El Achy, World Board Chairman was shown in the projector which not only entertained the mass but also brought them into a thinking process.
Finally the closing remark was given by Ms. Pushpalata Bhattrai - Joint Chief Commissioner of Nepal Scouts to end the event. After the event was closed, a small interaction programme was conducted to answer enquiries from the leaders and Rangers. On the same occasion a t-shirt has been produced.
